In the winter of 2023, my family and I embarked on an exciting new chapter: creating The Flower Patch, our very own cut-flower garden. This little haven grew as a natural extension of our established cottage and native garden, carrying a special purpose close to my heart.

For a long time, I dreamed of growing all my favourite everlasting flowers right outside our door. This garden made that dream come true, providing the beautiful ingredients I use in my floral designs.

When planting began last spring, I carefully chose favourites like strawflower, winged everlastings, paper daisies, amaranth and statice. With the passing seasons, my confidence blossomed alongside the blooms, inspiring me to try new varieties and making this garden a vibrant, ever-changing space.

But this garden is truly a shared creation. Behind every turned spade and every planted seed is my husband Rich, whose patient hands and steady work have brought the vision to life. Whether digging, moving soil, building garden beds or filling flower boxes, he’s quietly passionate about it all. With a deep love for trees and the outdoors, Rich cherishes the memories we’ve made and continue to make here—moments that root our family even closer to this special place.

Our first year in The Flower Patch has been full of lessons, celebrations and a few surprises. Adding extra flower boxes and some fencing to keep the rabbits at bay became essential parts of the journey. We’re always amazed by the bounty we can grow ourselves, and despite the occasional setback, each season brings fresh plans and excitement.
